What are the Best Foods to Eat During Pregnancy

If you’re having your very first child then you’re surely full of mixed emotions, from excitement to worry. The first baby is always the scariest for new parents because you really feel like you are all grown up now. You always see your parents as being responsible and knowing what’s best, but now it’s your turn.

If this prospect seems scary and daunting to you then don’t worry – your parents have gone through it too so they will definitely offer you plenty of advice. Browsing through magazines like parent child can also be advantageous. Reading through online articles and blogs will also benefit you, but don’t get too carried away and read hundreds because this might confuse you on what you should or shouldn’t do. Be sure to relax and take plenty of breaks, maybe play a few online games over at cheekybingo or give your parents a call through skype so you can talk to them about any issues. But remember, it is an exciting time so above all, enjoy it.

We have put together a list of great foods you should try to eat during pregnancy. Remember that whatever you eat is also feeding your baby.

Avocados: These fruits are packed with folic acid which is vital for forming your baby’s brain and nervous system. It is also rich in potassium, vitamin C and vitamin B6. This essential vitamin not only helps your baby’s tissues and brain to develop, but it is also great for easing morning sickness.

Broccoli: This veg is full of vitamins A and C, as well as calcium which helps build strong bones for you and your baby.

Yoghurt: Yoghurt is full of calcium and folic acid which is great for your baby’s bones. In addition, it helps to ease sickness and it helps to prevent yeast infections.

Mangoes: If you’re not a great fan of vegetables then fruits like mango are great for getting your vitamin A and C.

The Ombre Effect: Hair Experts Give Us Their Top Tips On How To Get The Look

Let us introduce you to hair colour’s hottest, newest trend- something we like to call ombré, aka, dip-dye’s cooler, more sophisticated big sister. You see, whilst dip-dye was great fun, and gave us free-will to experiment with some pretty cool colours, the overall look was just a little bit too harsh for our liking, leaving us feeling more My Little Pony than the festi-chic beauty we were going for. Well, all hail the ombré, ladies! Ombré literally means ‘graduation’ in French, which refers to the dark-to-light fade of colour that is used in the technique, where darker roots blend softly into lightened ends. This kind of colour works well on layered or choppy cuts, and the overall result is seriously chic. We love!

The red carpet has been awash as of late with celebs sporting the ombré trend, although when we spotted Kate Bosworth’s two-toned tresses last week at a private screening of Black Rock, we knew this trend was on to something…

Celebrity hairdresser Richard Ward (the genius behind K-Mid’s gorgeous tresses) says, “Ombré is a far more subtle take on dip-dying that works particularly well on long, layered hair.” We couldn’t agree more- in our opinion; the key lies in a soft, modern graduation of colour- nothing looks more dated than a harsh, dip-dyed effect.

Still tempted to take the ombré plunge? Earlier this week, we were lucky enough to catch up with JOICO Celebrity Colourist George Papanikolas (Kim Kardashian’s colourist) and Global Artistic Director Damien Carney, who gave us some exclusive ombré tips. Read on and learn, ladies…

1. Keep it Natural

Whilst the two-tone effect is a really low maintenance colour choice, it is important to make sure the result is as natural as possible- to get the best results, ask your colourist to keep the base colour within two ranges of your natural colour. If the colour transition between dark and light stops and starts, the contrast is too strong.

2. It’s All About the Prep

When you deepen your colour, or lighten your ends, it’s crucial to keep it in top condition.  Applying darker colour to damaged hair will cause quick fading.  It’s best to prepare the hair by treating it with JOICO K-Pak RevitaLuxe, to strengthen, repair, and soften the hair before and after the colour service.

3. Don’t Try This At Home

Don’t be tempted to try this at home! It will be a mess – only a professional hairdresser will understand what level, tone and contrast are required to create this look.

Ruth Crilly Of A Model Recommends Shows Us What’s Inside Her Makeup Bag

Ruth Crilly has been an international model for over ten years, working alongside some of the world’s hottest beauty and fashion experts on campaigns for Patrick Cox, Olay and Myla to name a few. Over the course of her stellar career, Ruth has clearly picked up a trick or two from makeup artists, and now dishes out daily doses of expert advice on her blog, A Model Recommends, which receives over a million views every month.

We love Ruth’s fresh approach to beauty and couldn’t wait to catch up with her about the products she just can’t live without. Ruth says, “There’s always quite an eclectic mix going on in my makeup bag – I’m constantly trying out new things, but I also have my firm favourites. I like a very natural but perfected look, which is probably clear from the products below!”

0e277 makeup bag Ruth Crilly Of A Model Recommends Shows Us Whats Inside Her Makeup BagBy Terry Sheer Expert Foundation, £44: An all-time favourite. Very pricey, but, for me, worth every penny. It has a bouncy, youthful texture and smells utterly divine!

Clarins Eye Mask, £30.50: has become an almost daily treat! I’m pretty sure that I’m overusing in, but early mornings-plus-late nights mean that I definitely need extra help in the eye area.

Clarins Gloss Prodige in Waterlily, £17: I eat more of this than ends up on my lips, but I think that’s a compliment…

Urban Decay 24/7 Concealer in FBI, £12: A convenient draw-on concealer that blends smoothly and stays put all day. Makeup bag essential.

Chanel Powder Brush, £44: Plush and suitably chic for those “makeup on the Eurostar” sessions.

Dior Nudeskin Powder in Sunlight (002), £37: Two parts subtle bronze, one part healthy blush. Foolproof enlivening for the face.

Real Techniques Expert Face Blush, £11.99: Gives an absolutely flawless foundation finish. I’m at a loss without this now.

YSL Babydoll Mascara (Purple) – one of my “on trial” products because it doesn’t launch for a few weeks, yet, but it’s gorgeous. Full, dark, separated lashes and no annoying fall-out specks.

From Beverly Hills to London, the stars were out in full force this weekend, sporting some pretty amazing red carpet looks to boot! Despite the wet and windy weather in London yesterday, TV’s finest managed to look utterly amazing at the TV Baftas- our fave being Sienna’s sultry bangs and smoky eye combo which, we think, totally stole the show. Across the pond, the likes of Britney Spears and Madison Grace Reed also had the beauty wow-factor, pulling off some seriously stunning springtime looks. Want to see for yourself? Makeup Guru Mai Quynh Reveals The Secrets Behind Ginnifer Goodwin’s Purple Smoky Eye

d2a90 web1 2 Makeup Guru Mai Quynh Reveals The Secrets Behind Ginnifer Goodwins Purple Smoky Eye

Ginnifer Goodwin proved she was no shrinking violet at a MAC Cosmetics dinner last night at the Chateau Marmont, held in honour of Prabal Gurung. Miss Goodwin was seen rocking a super-smouldering purple eye which totally stole the show.

We’ve been swooning over Ginnifer’s purple peepers all morning, which went perfectly with her silver and bronze metallic dress. The overall look was just totally gorgeous and was the work of makeup genius Mai Quynh. We think Miss Goodwin gets it just spot on- her desert-island eyes are offset perfectly by a flawless complexion, lightly contoured cheeks and a pale pink lip. We love!

What’s more, Ginnifer’s look is proof that a smouldering, smoky eye doesn’t have to be monochrome. Although wearing purple might seem daunting, it is actually one of the most universally flattering shades of makeup, and it looks good on every skin tone. Wondering how to pull it off? We were lucky enough to catch up with makeup artist Mai Quynh himself who shared with us the secrets behind Ginnifer’s stellar beauty look. Read on and learn, ladies…

Step One

Prep the skin with Crème de la Mer Moisturiser.

Step Two

Apply Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Shadow in Ice to the eyelids, from the lash line to the crease. Next, arm yourself with YSL Ombres 5 Lumieres in 4 Lilac Sky and mix the dark purple and the medium purple together and sweep over the cream shadow, blending it into the crease and upward.

Step Three

To keep the look super-smouldering, smudge the dark purple shadow along the lower lash line, too.

Step Four

Apply two coats of Lancome Definicils Mascara in Black. For extra va-va-voom, add a few individual lashes from Ardell using Duo eyelash adhesive.

Step Five

For your base, apply Laura Mercier Oil Free Supreme Foundation in Sunny Beige and use Dior Skin Radiance Booster Pen in Candle Light 002 under eyes to hide any dark circles. For blush, arm yourself with Josie Maran Cream Blush in Sunset and apply to the apples of the cheeks.

Step Six

Set the look with Shiseido Translucent Pressed Powder.

Step Seven

For the final flourish, brush on Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 hour Blush in Exposed over the cream blush and apply Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick in 79 Plumetis to lips.

Beauty Bites: A Blonde Beyoncé Is More Recognisable PLUS Neom’s New Candle

Is it just us, or has the nation suddenly become obsessed with tanning, like, overnight? It all kicked off when Kate Moss was unveiled as the new face of St Tropez last week, jump-starting us all into realising that summer is finally around the corner and by golly, isn’t it high time we did something to expel the ghostly pallor lurking beneath our baggy black jumpers? The wonderful array of golden limbs seen walking down the red carpet at Sunday’s TV BAFTA Awards (hello, Millie Mackintosh and Sienna Miller) were further proof that the time has come to get your bronze on, big time. But what else has been happening in the world of beauty? Read on for the latest beauty bites…

Is Beyoncé More Recognisable As A Blonde Or Brunette?

Now, we are very confused indeed. She may be the Texan goddess we know and love, but according to a recent poll by Acemetrix, it seems that Beyoncé makes a bigger impression on consumers as a blonde than a brunette. Based on HM’s new ads – one where she had blonde hair and one where she was a brunette – it seems people have more ease recognising her as a blonde. 16% of consumers recognised Beyoncé in the blonde shots, but only 7% were able to reference her when brunette. Now, what does this all mean? Maybe blondes do have more fun, after all…

Go Inside The BAFTA TV Awards Style Suites: Find Out How The Stars Get Bafta-fied

Tonight we’re getting another dose of red carpet action as Sienna Miller, the Games of Thrones bunch, the Downton Abbey gals, Olivia Colman and more will hit the TV BAFTAS. As we type they will be getting preened, spritzed and squeezed into their floor-sweepers – but how exactly do they get red-carpet ready? Well the BAFTA style suites has camped up at the Corinthia Hotel where they can get their hair done by Mark Hill, their makeup done by MAC, their tans topped up by St. Tropez, pick up some sparkle from CARAT and choose a frock or a shoe from House of Fraser.

Before the nominees party we got to go inside the Bafta Style Suites at the Corinthia Hotel, to find out how the stars will be BAFTA-fied this afternoon. Here are the things we learnt about getting ready for the red carpet from our day inside the Bafta Style Suites…

1. The Mark Hill hair team are at the Style Suites today from 10am, but the slot that is most in demand is at 3pm. Each slot is super speedy, as each star only gets half an hour to three quarters of an hour with a hair stylist.

2. St Tropez will be tanning 10-20 celebrities today and expect the stars to hit it hard with their tans this year. Michaella Bolder, skin finishing and tanning expert, commented that ‘the TV Baftas is a bit more fun – we expect there will be short dresses playing with parts of the body. The stars aren’t under as much scrutiny as the film Baftas.’

3. MAC predict that this year the red carpet beauty looks will have a 1920s and early 1910s Downton Abbey romantic feel. But point out that even though they may reference the era, they always tone down the look.

4. In terms of hair trends, Mark Hill also predict Gatsby-tastic up dos and romantic curls. But they also like to make the actresses look a bit different from their characters and not as if they have walked straight off the set of Mr Selfridge or Downton Abbey.

ffcea main image tv bafta Go Inside The BAFTA TV Awards Style Suites: Find Out How The Stars Get Bafta fied

Emilia Fox, Sophie Okonedo and Millie Mackintosh at last year’s TV Baftas

5.The MAC make up artists will spend the most time preparing the skin and eyebrows. They point out that creamy textures show up best on camera.

6. To make sure the skin looks picture perfect the MAC team will test foundation on the back and chest first, so that the face isn’t a different colour from the rest of the body.

7. In terms of coverage, they apply concealer rather than a lot of foundation. As the aim is to look like you have naturally healthy skin, rather than be able to tell that you are wearing make up.

8. In terms of tan the stars will be able to choose between The Diamond Tan, The Custom Tan or The Luxe Glow. To prepare for the flashbulbs, Michaella comments that contouring and highlighting certain parts of the body (such as the shoulders) is essential, as the light will flash back off the body making it look healthy.
